« Back Toshiba takes the Environmental Initiative by planting Two Thousand Seven Hundred Trees in Metropolitan Manila

Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte., Ltd. Manila Representative Office (TAPL) and Toshiba Group’s three operating companies in the Philippines this morning joined forces with representatives from the Department of Environmental and Natural Resources, Office of the Mayor of Taguig City, Metro Manila Development Authority, and the winners of Miss Philippines Earth 2011 to beautify one of Metro Manila’s most traveled beltways by planting 2,700 trees along circumferential C5 Road.

TAPL, Toshiba Information Equipment (Philippines), Inc., Toshiba Storage Device (Philippines), Inc. and Toshiba Logistics (Philippines) Corp. cooperated in organizing the event, as part of Toshiba’s program to mark its 150th anniversary in 2025 by planting a worldwide forest of 1.5 million trees by 2025, and also to celebrate 2011 as the United Nations’ International Year of the Forest. A hundred and fifty volunteers from Toshiba’s Philippine operations took part in the planting, and they were joined by Mr. Shoji Yoshioka, Senior Vice President of Toshiba Corporation, and representatives of Toshiba Group companies in Asia and Oceania.

The tree planting is the first time that Toshiba Group companies in the Philippines have worked together on an environmental initiative. Planting trees along C5 Road, one of Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfares, will not only help improve the beauty and tree growth along the road but will help to absorb pollution and noise emissions from vehicles.

This tree-planting effort is part of Toshiba Group’s global initiative to plant 1.5 million trees worldwide by 2025, year chosen to celebrate Toshiba’s 150th anniversary and to demonstrate its long-term commitment to help save the global environment. The tree planting program reflects Toshiba Group’s Environmental Vision 2050, a comprehensive and long-term commitment to environmental management practices that promote harmony with the Earth.
