« Back Toshiba Group Companies in Singapore Partner National Parks Board and Sunbeam Place in Toshiba’s “Simultaneous Social Contribution Action 2016”

Employees from Toshiba group companies in Singapore took part in a tree-decorating activity at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

On 25 November 2016, employees from Toshiba group companies in Singapore participated in a tree-decorating activity with children from the Sunbeam Place at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The activity was conducted as part of Toshiba Corporation’s “Simultaneous Social Contribution Action 2016” and organized in conjunction with the United Nations’ International Volunteer Day and National Parks Board (NParks) Singapore’s “Give to the Gardens” programme.

Corporate Representative-Asia, Toshiba Corporation and Managing Director of Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, Mr. Tatsuo Doko started by welcoming children and guests from Sunbeam Place as well as employees from the Toshiba group companies in Singapore. Sunbeam Place is managed by the Singapore Children’s Society.

He said, “Apart from delivering quality technologies and solutions to enhance the way we work, live and play, Toshiba believes it can contribute meaningfully to the lives of people around us. I believe that our participation in today’s activity with Sunbeam Place and the NParks will be a meaningful one for all of us.”

The children from Sunbeam Place were then presented with gifts in the form of cash donations, book vouchers, toys and food items, which were contributed by Toshiba group companies in Singapore and individual employees.

Toshiba group companies in Singapore has pledged a donation to the Garden City Fund in support of horticulture and education projects under the “Give to the Gardens” programme.

To celebrate the launch of the “Give to the Gardens” programme, Sunbeam Place together with Toshiba were invited to decorate trees at the Gardens. Using ornaments that were either handmade or donated by Toshiba employees, the children from Sunbeam Place decorated 10 native tree species. These trees were lit up at the launch of the Trees of the World Light-up event.

The Trees of the World Light-up event takes place from 29 November 2016 to 2 January 2017 at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. The light up transforms the Gardens into an attractive night-time destination and magical wonderland. After the event, the trees will be planted in various locations around Singapore.

In addition to the tree-decorating activity, Toshiba employees also accompanied the children from Sunbeam Place on a leisurely stroll at the National Orchid Garden, before going for lunch at a nearby restaurant.

Participants from 10 Toshiba Group companies in Singapore – Toshiba Asia Pacific, Toshiba Data Dynamics, Toshiba Electronics Asia (Singapore), Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, Toshiba Logistics Singapore, Toshiba Mitsubishi-Electric Industrial Systems Corporation, Toshiba Singapore, Toshiba TEC Singapore, Chevalier Singapore and Landis & Gyr – participated in the CSR activity.

Through activities like these, Toshiba aims to reinforce its commitment to people and caring for the environment, and make a meaningful difference in the communities it operates in.
