Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereinafter Toshiba ESS) and Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (hereinafter Kansai) today announced that they have agreed to provide consultation services on the operation and maintenance management of units 1 and 2 of the Calaca Thermal Power Plant in southern Luzon, Republic of the Philippines, and entered into a contract with the plant owner, Sem-Calaca Power Corporation (SCPC), a DMCI Holdings group company.

The positive economic growth of the Philippines drives strong electricity demand. Corresponding to such high demand of electricity, stable operation of existing power plants is one of the practical solution in addition to developing new sources of power supply.

Working together, Toshiba ESS and Kansai will investigate the current operation and maintenance condition of the units 1 and 2 of the plant over a 14-month period, and make recommendations on how to improve the availability and operational management of the plant. They will also provide engineers at Calaca with training in Japan that will improve their technical skills and understanding of how to improve the operating efficiency of the power plant.

Kansai has developed “K-VaCS,” a total solution service for thermal power plants that creates customer value from new plant planning through to operation and maintenance.

Toshiba ESS will draw on years of expertise in developing and manufacturing power generation equipment to provide digital services that improve the value of the power plants.

By providing Calaca with the high added-valued services that draw on Kansai’s knowledge as a utility and Toshiba ESS’s technical expertise, the two companies will contribute to the stable power supply and the continued development in the Philippines.
