Toshiba Group Companies Raise Awareness of Water Conversation through Clean-up Activity

Apr 21, 2017 < Back

On 21 April 2017, Toshiba Group companies in Singapore took part in a clean-up activity along Singapore’s Kallang River to raise awareness of water conservation among its employees. This was held in conjunction with Toshiba Global Environmental Action 2017, which aims to enhance environmental awareness among Toshiba employees.

In collaboration with the Waterways Watch Society (WWS), an NGO organization formed to monitor and contribute to the cleanliness of the Singapore and Kallang Rivers, Toshiba employees gained insight into the challenges facing Singapore in developing a diversified and sustainable water supply and in building greater water capabilities. Currently, Singapore gets its water from four sources – local catchment areas, imported water, reclaimed water known as NEWater and desalinated water.

Following a safety briefing by WWS, Toshiba employees were separated into different groups to pick up litter from the pavements and waterways stretching from the Kallang River, along the Esplanade, to the end of the Singapore River.

Mr. Tatsuo Doko, Corporate Representative for Asia, Toshiba Corporation and Managing Director, Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte Ltd shared, “In line with Toshiba’s environmental management concept ‘T-COMPASS*’, we hope that through this meaningful activity, we can learn to keep Singapore waters clean and safe and inspire stewardship for the environment of Singapore.”

This year, 40 employees from Toshiba group companies in Singapore – Toshiba Asia Pacific, Toshiba Data Dynamics, Toshiba Electronics Asia (Singapore), Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, Toshiba Singapore and Toshiba TEC Singapore participated in the clean-up exercise.

Through activities like these, Toshiba is committed to doing its part for the environment and increasing the awareness of environmental issues among its employees.
