« Back Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation Starts Production of Diagnostic Ultrasound Systems at Manufacturing Base in Malaysia

Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation (TMSC) today announced that its new Malaysian subsidiary, Toshiba Medical Systems Manufacturing Asia SDN. BHD. (TMMA) will begin operations from today.

Based in Penang, TMMA will initially produce diagnostic ultrasound systems and later their printed wiring boards. It will ship to global markets, starting from January next year. The company is Malaysia’s first manufacturing base for diagnostic imaging systems, and was established in November 2013. Since then, it has constructed its new facility, fitted out production lines and trained manufacturing staff. All necessary approval processes have now been completed, and production of Toshiba’s Aplio[1] series diagnostic ultrasound systems started today.

Manufacturing of wiring boards is scheduled to start in March 2015, and all production lines will be operational from July 2015.

Malaysia is an excellent location for a global logistics hub serving Europe and the Middle East, and production in Malaysia will support the rapid provision of high-quality products to customers in the global market. TMMA will also be able to provide high-quality, cost-competitive products by increasing procurement rates from the growing base of local suppliers of parts for medical equipment.

TMMA will initially employ 110 people, and expects enhancements to its production systems to create employment further to reach 200 personnel by 2020.

Note:

[1] The Aplio series offers Toshiba’s top-of-the-line ultrasound systems. Ultrasound is widely used in many clinical applications, from diagnosis to follow-up, as it is non-invasive and does not expose patients to radiation. Increasing application is expected in confirmation of cancer and tumors and determining effectiveness of treatments and dosages.
