Toshiba Shows Its Continuing Commitment to the Filipino Youth

Binan, Laguna-Toshiba Corporation today announced it will donate a total of 100 brand new notebook PCs and PhP1,000,000 cash to secure Internet connectivity for a year to 10 identified public high schools in the Laguna Province as part of its support for the “Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students” (GILAS) Project.

Toshiba is celebrating its second year of participation in GILAS, the program promoted by the Ayala Foundation to boost computer literacy among students at public high schools. The company made its donation to GILAS today at a turn-over ceremony at the Binan Secondary School of Applied Academics. The donation will see 10 brand new notebook PCs going into each of the 10 schools, a gift that will be supported and enhanced by provision of funds to secure full Internet connectivity for the coming year

GILAS, a multi-sector consortium, aims to provide Internet access to all public secondary school students countrywide. The project’s nationwide campaign has the goal of promoting information literacy by bringing all public high schools in the Philippines on-line and into the network. So far, the program has already brought Internet access to a total of 2,116 schools.

  • Dr. Lilia T. Reyes, Schools Division Superintendent, the Dept. of Education, Laguna

 

Apart from the above named, school officials, teachers, students and other members of the community also attended the ceremony.
