AUW Announces the Toshiba Scholars Program
CHITTAGONG, Bangladesh, June 24, 2013 – The Asian University for Women (AUW) announced today that the Toshiba Corporation will sponsor scholarships for three students attending AUW from Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar. The Japanese company will provide scholarships to these young women for the course of their undergraduate education at AUW—a four-year program in the liberal arts and sciences.
These full scholarships will include tuition, room and board, health insurance, textbooks and supplies, and international travel. Toshiba has previously been involved with AUW through the University’s internship program, hosting student interns at its Japan offices. The Toshiba Scholars are: Afsana Kabir, from Bangladesh; Nivedita Negi, from India; and Chit Su Win, from Myanmar. They will complete AUW’s Access Academy curriculum in July and begin their studies in the undergraduate program this autumn.
Toshiba has strong commitment to corporate social responsibility efforts in education and environment, while keeping long involvement in technical education while keeping its long history of innovation and ongoing leadership in the technology field. Cherishing diversity is one of the fields that Toshiba also emphasizes, while supporting growth of growing economies is the key field that the company focuses currently. Under that philosophy, Toshiba’s scholarship programs include schools such as Vietnam National University and Hanoi University of Science and Technology. This activity for supporting AUW will add another solution for the companies’ commitment to future generations.
