« Back Toshiba Establishes Yangon Branch Office in Myanmar

TOKYO, JAPAN – Toshiba Corporation (Tokyo: 6502) today announced that its Singapore-based subsidiary, Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte.,Ltd. has established a branch office in Yangon in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. The Yangon Branch Office will start operation in May. The Myanmar economy is expected to grow as it promotes economic deregulation and attracts inward direct investment. Ensuring sustained growth will require broad investments in social infrastructure, including power generation and distribution, and the Yangon Branch Office will investigate the market and promote business in this and other areas, such as consumer products. Toshiba has promoted its home appliance business in Myanmar through distributors in Singapore since the 1980s, and supplied also hydroelectric equipment for the Sedawgyi hydroelectric power plant in 1985. Through the new office, Toshiba will establish a stronger presence in the country and support Myanmar’s economic development.
