Commended for Actions After Bus Accident – Gratitude expressed by Vietnamese government and Russian authorities

The prompt actions of Mr. Ngo Van Hieu helped save the lives of members of a party of Russian tourists following a serious road accident in Vietnam, and earned him the thanks of the Russian authorities and a congratulatory certificate from a Vietnamese provincial government.

Mr. Hieu, a member of the Toshiba project team supporting the Dai Ninh Hydro Power Plant in Vietnam’s Binh Thuan Province, was on his way home at around 6:30PM on March 13 when he came across a bus that had gone off the road and crashed down a cliff. He immediately called the emergency services, and the plant staff who were still in the office, and helped survivors of the crash. Unfortunately 10 people died in the accident, and 15 were seriously injured. But without Mr. Hieu’s help, the fatality figure would have been higher. Mr. Hieu works on the Dai Ninh project team, a hydropower plant for which Toshiba supplied two hydro generators plus mechanical and electrical equipment. Construction of the plant started in 2004, and it was commissioned in March 2008.

In recent years, Toshiba Group has won orders for key equipment three hydroelectric power plants in Vietnam: Dai Ninh and Ham Thuan (commissioned in 2001) and Da Nhim (commissioned in 2005).
