« Back Clean Up To Mark World Environment Day 2013

World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year to promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action. On this occasion, Toshiba organized a clean up event with Waterways Watch Society, a special volunteer group in Singapore to clean up the waterways stretching from Kallang River, the new Marina Bay reservoir and Singapore River.

The objective of this event was to spread eco-awareness and increase Toshiba green footprint. A total of 50 volunteers from Singapore Toshiba Group of Companies led by Mr Fumio Otani, Corporate Representative of Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte Ltd kicked off the event after the welcome address by Mr Otani and presentation by Mr Faris, Program Manager of Waterways Watch Society.

After the safety briefing, the participants were formed up into respective boat and patrol groups. Then the volunteers took to the waterways and walkways by the patrol boats and bicycles provided to pick up litters found along the pavements and waterways. A total of about 50 kg of litters were collected. After the event, Mr Eugene , the Chairman of Waterways Watch Society thanked Toshiba for supporting the Clean up campaign. All the volunteers from Toshiba were very happy to have participated in Toshiba’s global eco-action on World Environment Day and contribution to a Cleaner Singapore.
