On 28 September 2016, Toshiba Electronics Asia (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (TEA) was presented the SHARE Silver Award at the 2016 Community Chest Awards as recognition of its outstanding contributions and strong support of Community Chest. Held at the Istana, the official residence and office of the President of Singapore, the awards ceremony was graced by the President of the Republic of Singapore, Mr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, and Mr. Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development.
Established in 1983, Community Chest engages the community to support people in need through fund-raising and volunteering. This enables social service organizations supported by Community Chest to better provide critical social service programmes to help children with special needs, people with disabilities, frail and lonely seniors and families facing difficulties.
The SHARE awards are presented based on an organization’s employees’ participation rate in the SHARE program. To encourage its employees to contribute to Community Chest, TEA has been matching staff contributions dollar-for- dollar, and has been supporting the organization since 1994.
Besides supporting Community Chest, TEA also participates in other Toshiba Group activities to contribute to society. These include cleaning up the coastal areas of Singapore’s Pulau Ubin Island, supporting tree-planting initiatives, and contributing to children’s homes.
Through such initiatives, Toshiba is not only expressing its commitment to Singapore, but also hopes to instill a spirit of giving and volunteerism in its employees to make a positive difference in the communities it operates in.
