- Continuous contributions in hydroelectric generating equipment for over forty years
TOKYO—Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO: 6502) today announced that Toshiba Group has won major orders to supply hydroelectric generating equipment for the Malea Hydro Power Plant Project in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The orders were received from PT Malea Energy, the subsidiary of Kalla Group that generates and distributes hydropower energy in Indonesia.
The feature of the equipment is its high head and high rotational speed. Deliveries will start from 2018 and the plant is scheduled to start commercial operation in 2020. The Indonesian government has an aggressive power supply development plan to add 35GW in installed capacity over the next five years, and the new plant will contribute to reaching this target.
Toshiba Group has a long track record of providing hydroelectric turbines and generators to ASEAN countries, including Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, and has built a strong presence in Indonesia.
Toshiba installed its first hydropower system in Indonesia in 1973, and its supply record to date is 33units of hydroelectric turbines and generators with total capacity of 1,490MW.
Commenting on the order, Takao Konishi, Vice President of the Thermal & Hydro Power Systems & Services Div. in Toshiba’s Energy Systems & Solutions Company said, “Demand for power is growing fast in Indonesia, and Toshiba is pleased to help increase capacity.
