Toshiba Wins Major Order in Indonesia for 1,000MW Ultra-Super Critical Steam Turbine and Generator for Expansion of Cirebon Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant

TOKYO-Toshiba Corporation (TOKYO:6502) today announced that it will provide a 1,000MW ultra-super-critical steam turbine and generator (STG) for the expansion of the Cirebon coal-fired thermal power plant in Indonesia. Toshiba, with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd and Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., is a member of an EPC*1 consortium that has received a letter of award from the plant’s owner and operator, PT. Cirebon Energi Prasarana (CEPR), confirming selection to supply equipment for the plant.

The STG Toshiba will supply and install is in the world’s largest output class and achieves the highest energy efficiency currently available. Toshiba will also provide other equipment including plant control equipment.

The Cirebon plant, in West Java Province, was commissioned in July 2012 and is operated by PT Cirebon Electric Power invested by Marubeni Corporation and its partners. The expansion project is being managed by CEPR, a special purpose company established through a joint ownership of five companies – Marubeni, PT. Indika Energy Energy Tbk, Korean Samtan Co., Ltd., Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. and Chubu Electric Power Co.,Inc that will also construct and operate the plant. Commercial operation is scheduled in 2020. Once operational, it will be the largest coal fired ultra-super critical thermal power plant in Indonesia

Toshiba was selected to provide the 1,000MW ultra-super-critical STG on the strength of the successful performance of the company’s power generation equipment in Indonesia and its track record in supplying ultra-super critical thermal plant equipment around the world.

Economic advances and growing demand are straining current electricity supply capacity in Indonesia, and the government is promoting efforts to meet present demand and future rises in demand. Toshiba has rich experience in plant equipment supply in Indonesia, from the Gresik Thermal Power Plant in 1981 to Tanjung Jati B Thermal Power Plant in 2012, and is capable of providing diversified energy solutions and highly reliable state of the art technology that can contribute to energy stability and security.

In its efforts to secure a sustainable future, Toshiba will continue to provide the highest levels of power generation efficiency though industry-leading thermal power technologies for ultra-super critical coal fired plants and gas turbine-combined cycle plants, and will actively engage in construction of environmentally friendly power plants.
