Toshiba’s CSR Activity contributes to the Sustainability of Singapore’s Waterway Clean-Up

In the spirit of Toshiba’s Sustainability Month, employees from five group companies in Singapore, including Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., Toshiba Electronics Asia (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., Toshiba TEC Singapore Pte. Ltd., Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., and TMEIC Asia Pte. Ltd. joined forces on December 13, 2023, for a meaningful CSR initiative – the Waterway Clean-Up at Kallang.

The event is a collaboration with the Waterways Watch Society (WWS), aimed at fostering a cleaner environment and promoting sustainable water resource management in Singapore. As an island nation, Singapore faces unique challenges, and Toshiba recognizes the significance of keeping the waterway clean for the well-being of the community, partnering with WWS aligns with the company’s broader focus on sustainable practices.

December, designated as Toshiba’s Sustainability Month further reinforced the company’s dedication to advancing environmental initiatives. In his Sustainability Month message, Mr. Taro Shimada, CEO of Toshiba Corporation, set the tone with a call to “take a step forward” in promoting carbon neutrality. Indeed, this is reflected throughout the event with the volunteers actively participating in the clean-up, embodying Toshiba’s philosophy of being “Committed to People, Committed to the Future.”

The Waterway Clean-Up also coincided with the United Nations Volunteer Day. A total of 28 passionate participants, including the Managing Director of Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd, Mr. Kazutoshi Hashimoto, and President of Toshiba TEC Singapore, Mr. Yasutoshi Serizawa, joined the volunteers to lead in creating a positive impact on the environment.

24 volunteers operated power boats on the water, while 4 individuals worked diligently on land. Collectively, they successfully removed 56 kg of trash from the waterways! Through this CSR activity, Toshiba stands closer to achieving a cleaner environment and inspires a sense of responsibility among its employees. Mr. Kazutoshi Hashimoto, Managing Director of Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., expressed his gratitude to the volunteers and encouraged the spirit of volunteerism to be taken into their daily lives.

As we look toward a future marked by environmental responsibility, Toshiba Group remains steadfast in its commitment to building a sustainable society and making a meaningful difference in the world.
