Jakarta, Indonesia – Toshiba today reaffirmed its commitment to Indonesia’s increasing energy and infrastructure needs. Toshiba has been a leader in supplying power generation equipment supply to Indonesia with its first hydropower system commenced commercial operation in 1975. Since then, it has been delivering thermal, geothermal and hydropower technologies to Indonesia to support the country’s growing infrastructure.

According to Asian Development Bank, Indonesia presently boasts the largest economy in ASEAN and the 16th largest worldwide. The country’s power generation capacity in 2025 is expected to double as compared to 2017, from 50GW to 106GW as reported in the RUPTL PT PLN (PERSERO) Energy Supply Business Plan 2018-2027.Responding to the country’s increasing electricity demand, Toshiba has supplied or received orders of 16 units of steam turbines for thermal 42 units of hydraulic turbines and 5 units of geothermal steam turbines across Indonesia, contributing to a combined capacity to over 9.5GW.  Toshiba’s recent awards include a contract to supply three 75MW hydro turbines and generators for the Malea hydro power plant project. This is an additional order of the existing two 45MW hydro turbines and generators.

Mr. Fumihiro Okada, President Director, PT. Toshiba Asia Pacific Indonesia (TAPI), said, “We are honored to be supporting Indonesia’s energy needs through geothermal, hydro and thermal power generation. As the country develops, TAPI is increasing our localization efforts to be closer to our customers with the offering of direct maintenance services for power facilities and partnerships with local companies in Indonesia to support the country’s growth.”

TAPI’s business portfolio has since expanded to include electricity transmission and distribution as well as infrastructure solutions such as railway transportation and building facilities incorporating lighting, elevators and industrial air-conditioning. In August this year, Toshiba concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) on the implementation of H2One™, an autonomous off-grid hydrogen energy system based on renewable energy and the use of hydrogen as a fuel for power generation in Indonesia. Toshiba also acquired a majority stake in PT. Envitech Perkasa in 2011, and has since contributed to Indonesia’s infrastructure by providing water solutions in over 200 projects in different industrial sectors.

Mr. Tatsuo Doko, Corporate Representative-Asia, Toshiba Corporation and Managing Director, Toshiba Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd., added “Indonesia continues to be an important market for Toshiba as the country seeks to promote sustainable economic development. Energy and infrastructure development are fundamental features to support this growth. Toshiba has supported Indonesia for over 40 years, and we continue to strive to provide reliable, cleaner energy and enable safe, secure and resilient societies for people through reliable infrastructure.”
