-Toshiba and Vietnam National Universities reaffirm ties in its 10th Year Scholarship Award Ceremony
Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City – Toshiba Corporation today announced the company’s continuous commitment to disburse scholarships in Vietnam through Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) and the Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNUHCM), with the aim of supporting eligible individuals with an access to quality tertiary education. The 10th year scholarship award ceremony was held in VNU-Hanoi today and VNUHCM will hold the ceremony on the following day.
Recognising the benefits of continuous education in science and technology – areas in which Vietnam is pursuing in their growth policies, Toshiba will provide each university with 1.6 million yen per year. Toshiba has supported the program since 2005 which has seen over 400 scholarship award recipients to date. Selected post-graduate students will each receive an annual scholarship which can be used for tuition fees and offset any living expenses.
Apart from scholarships, Toshiba established a laboratory to develop platform technology for embedded software and embedded systems with The College of Technology (Coltech) of Vietnam National University, Hanoi in 2007. The Hanoi University of Science and Technology which is another recipient of Toshiba’s scholarships, receives support for its nuclear power course.
As the Vietnam’s government calls for a focus on developing the two national universities to leading tertiary institutions, Toshiba is responding to its strong ties in Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations spanning over 40 years, with a dedicated aim to nurture Vietnam’s future generation.

Commenting ahead of the ceremony, Prof. Duong Anh Duc, Vice President of Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City says “As Vietnam continues to improve its manufacturing base and services, the demand for skills upgrading and manpower resources will increase. VNUHCM, one of the leading university systems in Vietnam, is committed to provide the high-qualified human resources to meet the economic development of the country. In that context, the Toshiba scholarship program at VNUHCM has served to add qualified individuals to Vietnam’s growing workforce, boosting Vietnam’s economic developments towards creating a favourable environment. I believe this meaningful scholarship program will continue to enhance our country’s talent pool.”
